ABC launches TV news channel

The ABC will launch a 24-hour free-to-air television news channel, accoridng to internet reports. It's been the subject of much conjecture in the past few months. Managing director Mark Scott told ABC news:
"No media organisation in the country is better equipped to deliver this channel than the national broadcaster. We can draw on the investment already made in the ABC, through its major newsrooms in every state and territory, 12 international bureaux and 60 regional newsrooms, to deliver to Australians a top-quality 24-hour news service that is comprehensive, independent and up to the minute."

The worst part: It's HD. I honestly think, that the ABC should offer a SD version of ABC4. Either shut down the two DTV DiG stations, or place ABC4 with Channel 31, when Briz 31 goes digital.
Kuttyswood...with respect,what you've written there,while no doubt 100% accurate,is to most of us,total gibberish !
HD...SD...ABC4...DTV DIG...Channel 31 ? I didnt know Briz 31 was still broadcasting never mind planning to go digital.
I like to think I follow what goes on around me but I'm stuffed if I can make any sense out of all that.Neither do I want to,just quietly !
I wonder what the older generation make of it all. With our ageing population they are in the majority.I imagine most people over 45 ( my age) just want to turn their TV on and watch whats in the TV guide.
