Footy Show returns

Footy Show returns

Posted March 5th, 2010 by debritz

Don't say you haven't been warned: The Footy Show is returning to Channel 9 next Thursday night at 9.30. This year it will face competition from a new show on Seven fronted by former Footy Show star Matthew Johns and featuring Shane Webke. It will premiere sometime this month. To misquote Roy and HG, sometimes too much sport is more than enough.

Brett, This article should stir up some thoughts.

If I were the NRL, I'd sell the FTA rights packages per state/states for the upcoming deal, due to digital switchover, with major conditions.

-The three FTA club/finals deals would be for, NSW/ACT, QLD and VIC/SA/WA.

-The predominately AFL states deal, must include live multichannel NRL games, with Melbourne Storm games airing in Melbourne, being negotiated separately.

-Grand Final, would rotate between the NSW/ACT and QLD rights holders, in much the same fashion, the Superbowl for the NFL rotates between networks, and would air on the AFL state's FTA rights holder's main channel in those states.

-State Of Origin, would be drawn along the lines of home holders, NSW rights holders produce Blues home games, QLD rights holders produce Maroons home games and the Melbourne rights holder will produce all neutral games (i.e outside NSW/ACT and QLD).

-State Of Origin victory, would also be how All Star Game rights are decided, with a QLD series win, equalling QLD broadcaster and vice versa.

-Representive games, that aren't the "Big Two" (SOO and All Star Game) e.g home and overseas tests, World Club Challenge would have one national deal, made with the ARL, not the NRL.

Full Pay rights would be negotiated separately to the FTA rights.
