Who's hot in radio

In the official radio ratings survey 5 for Brisbane released today, B105 remains no. 1 overall, with 612ABC's Spencer Howson still king of breakfast. Overall, the top four were B105, 97.3FM, Nova 106.9, 612ABC and Triple M. It was a solid result for 97.3, whose Robin, Terry and Bob also came fourth in breakfast after Howson, B105's Labby, Camilla and Stav, and Nova's Meshel, Tim and Marty. 612ABC also had a good survey, adding points across the day, with Steve Austin being particularly strong in the evenings. After recent gains, 4BC has slipped back marginally overall and in the breakfast shift, where Jamie Dunn is now in sixth place ahead of 4BH and 4KQ. Stablemates BC and BH had the biggest losses overall. In the Sydney results, covering the periods May 9 to June 12 and June 27 to Ju1y 31, the top three were 2GB, ABC702 and 2Day. The two leaders both had falls, but not enough to topple them. Biggest gainer overall and in breakfast was 2UE, while WSFM also added audience in breakfast. Nova held steady in breakfast, with a slight rise overall, and Classic Rock and Triple M slipped slightly. In Melbourne, 3AW held its big league, followed by ABC774 and Fox FM. Triple M, home of Eddie Maguire, slipped marginally overall and in breakfast. Newcomer MTR ranked at the tailend, but it wasn't on air for the full survey. The networked Hamish and Andy show continued to blitz allcomers in the drive shift.
Disclosure: Until today, Brett Debritz was a regular on the 612ABC breakfast show with Spencer Howson. He will be watching future surveys with great interest.

You watch, 4BC will say Spencer is number one because of the election. I'm sorry but that's not the case he's number one because talk radio listeners have not warmed to Jamie Dunn and it doesn't matter how many charity walks Jamie does, it will not rate. It's old Radio Jamie, and Spencer deserves to be the leader. If I was Jamie I'd resign that contract quick...
A well deserved set of gains for 97.3, considering that they are the only commercial FM station in Brisbane to have never rated #1 (not even from launch like B105 or Nova did), how close would have been the gap between #1 and #2?
I agree: Dunn is dunn, and should consider the idea of looking to resign, rather than to re-sign.
Thanks for picking up on the spelling mistake but Jamie is a smart operator and will stay while the money is good. The problem is who do they replace Dunn with? Peter Dick won't go back to breakfast (he continually rated higher higher than Jamie ever has) Michael Smith perhaps? I can't go into it here, but 4BC's problems are more than ratings at breakfast time. Traditionally Breakfast is the flagship program for listeners (ratings) and selling advertising. Normally the rest of the day benefits from the kick start breakfast gives it. Greg Cary has rated higher than Jamie constantly and Peter has most of the advertising previously from breakfast. People listen to Spencer and then switch back to Greg at 9am. Management needs to get the balance between sales and programming right first. Fairfax is too busy sorting out Sydney's 2UE and 4BC is getting a reprieve until that happens. Listeners are the ones that suffer. Keep up the good work Spencer you deserve it.
the 2 biggest complaints 4BC receives is 1. we can't get you in our radio (they have a day/night switch that powers down the transmitter at night) and 2. they lean too much to the political right. Having said that, number 2 doesn't really apply to Jamie as much as Greg and Smithy. Jamie just doesn't appeal to 4BC's target audience (55+ females) add to the mix that he can't string a sentence together without saying the word "Um" and he blasphemes. While Jamie's religious beliefs don't bother me one bit, it's his choice, many of the target listeners do and they do complain. Actually they did complain as they now listen to Spencer who can complete a sentence and with Spencer we don't know what his political persuasion or religious beliefs are.
I switched to 97.3 for breakfast. Ian Skippen is the only person worth listening to on The Cage. What inane drivel from announcers who are clearly the centre of their own universe. Please change the format as I do like the music.
