Say that again

Twice on news bulletins this morning, I heard that Australia is experiencing "one of the worst 'flu seasons in years". What exactly does that mean? It is doubly confusing in that both "one of" and "in years" are not specific. Is it, perhaps, the fifth-worst 'flu season in six years, or the second-worst season in thirty years?
