Siren call

I was reminded of this by a friend who told me how she saved an iPod-wearing cyclist from being collected by a fire engine ... At least 10 years ago, I was watching an Inventors-style television program in the UK, where somebody was demonstrating a new kind of emergency vehicle siren that, as well as making a lot of noise, created interference on car radios. The idea was to alert people who had their radios up so loud they couldn't hear the siren. It was, and is, a brilliant idea. I don't know if it's been adopted in Britain, but Australian authorities should certainly look at the idea.
